Overview
Buddhism holds profound significance in Varanasi and Bihar, India. Known as Sarnath in Buddhist history, Varanasi is where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment, introducing the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
The majestic Dhamek Stupa and ancient monastic ruins in Sarnath continue to attract pilgrims and scholars seeking spiritual insight. In Bihar, Bodhgaya stands as the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site, where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi Tree. Nearby, Nalanda was a legendary center of Buddhist learning, while Rajgir was the venue for many of Buddha’s important teachings.
Together, these sites in Varanasi and Bihar preserve the rich heritage and global legacy of Buddhism’s timeless wisdom.
